DC Judge upholds Election board refusal to let voters vote on definition of marriage
On Thursday, Judge Judith Macaluso upheld the DC Board of Elections refusal to put before DC voters an initiative that defines marriage as being only between a man and a woman. That ruling was immediately appealed to the DC Court of Appeals on January 15. A public hearing had been held by the DC Board of Elections in October on whether or not the bill was a proper subject for an initiative in light of the DC Human Rights Act. The Board of Elections ruled in November that it was not. At the same time, there will be a hearing before the DC Board of Elections and Ethics on Wednesday, January 27 at 10:30 a.m. at 441 4th St. NW, Rm. 220 South on whether or not a referendum allowing DC voters to approve or reject the law recently passed to allow same sex unions ("marriage") in DC can be put before the voters. Call 202-727-2525 to sign up to testify at that hearing. A referendum on the law recognizing same sex unions from other states was rejected by the DC Board of Elections in June, after a public hearing was held before the Board of Elections, and the DC Superior Court refused to overturn that decision in a June, 2009 ruling. That law had been introduced in April, 2009 with no public hearing and little discussion under the name "The Jury and Marriage Amendment Act of 2009". That bill was introduced in January, 2009, first voted on by the DC City Council in April, and approved in May.

The War on Intimacy
by Richard Panzer and Mary Ann Mosack Do you know what is being taught in your child's sex education class? Where did the current ideas about sex education come from? What is meant when some curricula talk about "abstinence". Why are condoms promoted so heavily in some curricula, and abstinence ignored. Find out the answer to these questions and much more by purchasing your copy of The War on Intimacy. This is a must read for those who want to know how we got where we are regarding sex education for our youth. A portion of the proceeds will benefit ULTRA Teen Choice: Order Now
